Evangelical Academy was established by Czech Brethern Evangelical Church (CCE) in 1990 as a school focused on education of professional workers in social sphere. Graduates may work in an entire sphere of social work, in state, private and church institutions, primarily in institutions of Diakonie CCE. Education gained by graduates from Evangelical Academy is equal to education offered in other types of secondary or higher professional study.

At present there exist following branches of study at Evangelical Academy:

Secondary social school:
A/ Social work (social care services, social pedagogy - 4 year daily study)
B/ Romany experimental study (social activities among ethnic minorities - 5 year external study)

Higher professional school:
Social and law activities (3 year daily study or 4 year external study)

Secondary social school in its daily study program educates social care workers and social tutors, while in its external study program assistants and advisors for Gypsies are trained.
Higher professional school for social and law activities educates qualified social workers with a diploma.
Evangelical Academy is a small school, whose capacity does not exceed 8 classes of daily study. This restriction in number of students is very important from the point of view of what the Academy is focused on, because students and teachers here know one another very well. Personal contacts in mutual communication also create a friendly school milieu, which helps to a better formation of a future social worker as well.

Secondary school
Every year a class of a 4 year study branch for social work focused on social care and social pedagogy is opened. The graduates gain an entire secondary professional education closed by a final exam. They are able then to carry out such professional activities, the central point of which is getting into a close touch with socially handicapped or disabled people. They can help them solve their personal problems or meet their social needs.
As social care services are concerned students are prepared primarily for a social service to seniors as well as for a personal assistance to people with physical, mental or sensuous handicaps staying at various institutes or in hospitals for long term patients.
As social pedagogy is concerned students are prepared primarily for social pedagogical work with children or handicapped adults in various types of social institutions - e.g. diagnostic institutes, children homes, special or integrated kindergartens, schools and day care centres etc.
First two years students of social care services as well as social pedagogy are trained together, after finishing the second class they are divided into two groups according to their study orientation. Professional and personal skills of each student are emphasized most, primarily then attitude to a client without any prejudices, adequate empathy, communicative skills and last but not least professional ethics. Professional practice becomes a part of Practical training - both passing through and placement - in an extent of 10 weeks altogether becomes a part of professional education. The training is organized in such a way so as students could get acquainted to different types of social institutions and work with various categories of clients.
Except professional subjects Evangelical Academy teaches common general subjects and is focused on language education. English and German are being taught here including conversational practice. The educational program is supplied with selective and optional subjects. Selective subjects help to create a professional profile of a student, while optional ones enable each student to be engaged in such fields that follow his or her personal interests. Simultaneously, these subjects help to create a general orientation of the Academy. Students may elect e.g. deaf-and-dumb signs, French language, Romany language, Romany studies and others.
In accordance with its orientation the school focuses on integration of students with physical or sensuous handicaps. Students on wheel chairs may use the main entrance to school and library without any restrictions.
Special teaching aids for students are also available.
Finished basic education is a precondition of studying at Evangelical Academy. Students who are interested in studying at our school should primarily feel strong social empathy and be able to perform high mental and physical output. In spite of the fact Evangelical Academy is a church school, being a member of church is not a precondition of the study. On the contrary tolerance to various religions and races, willingness, politeness, considerateness, kindness, openness and a deep interest in the study field are awaited. Students also have to pass entrance exams that consist of a Czech language test, a comprehensive test and a motivation interview. The exams take place in April and May. Applicants have to send their application forms either on behalf of their basic school till the end of February or directly to Evangelical Academy till the end of March.
There are open days for public at Evangelical Academy in December and January.
